Recently completed an oil change on a 2018 Lexus RX350 (3.5L V6, 2GR-FKS engine) and noticed a small amount of oil residue around the filter housing cap after the service. Used an OEM filter and torqued the housing cap to the manufacturer’s specification (25 Nm / 18 ft-lb). O-ring was replaced and lubricated with fresh engine oil, and the seating area was cleaned before reassembly. No leaks observed during initial startup or short test drive, but fine residue appeared after a longer drive.
Is this a known issue with the cartridge filter housing design on these engines? Are there recommendations for ensuring optimal sealing, such as double-checking the O-ring groove or using a specific lube on the O-ring? Curious wether the latest filter housing cap revision offers any improvements or if there are recurring issues with cap warping or hairline cracks. Interested in any best practices or recent TSBs related to this platform.
