Totally get where you’re coming from-the “B4” is mostly just a combo of Service B items (oil, filter, brake fluid, cabin filter) plus a more detailed inspection checklist. Nothing super exotic for an E-Class here, unless you’ve got AirMatic suspension or some AMG-specific hardware (which would add bits), but most dealers just bundle everything and upcharge for the Mercedes badge.
The only real curveball is Mercedes’ insistence on using their specific spec fluids (especially brake fluid-DOT4+ or their own OEM stuff), but that’s easy to handle for anyone who wrenches regularly. Their multipoint inspection is thorough, but not rocket science if you’re careful and follow a good checklist. I’ve been DIY’ing mine since it left warranty, and it’s literally half the price and just as good. Just make sure you reset the service reminder afterward (hidden menu in the dash).
Unless you find obvious wear or leaks, there’s rarely a surprise with B4-just the usual $800 surprise from the dealer!
