Oil Pooling in Spark Plug Well

I’m a beginner and have recently noticed some oil pooling in the spark plug well area. I’m not sure what might be causing this – is it something like a worn valve cover gasket or could it be related to the PCV system? I’d really appreciate any advice or pointers on how to diagnose and fix this. Also, if anyone has experienced something similar, what steps did you take to solve it? Thanks in advance for any help!

In my case, I found that replacing a malfunctioning PCV valve helped reduce the pressure in that area, making it easier to identify a slight leak in the valve cover gasket itself. It might be worthwhile to check both—the PCV system and the gasket material integrity—to isolate the culprit.

In my experience, I’ve also found that a misaligned valve cover gasket can sometimes cause oil to seep into the spark plug wells even when the PCV system’s spot on. It might be worth double-checking the gasket’s seating and condition. A quick comparison with a new gasket could save a lot of guesswork down the road.

Worth verifying that the gasket mating surfaces are completely clean and undamaged—sometimes a little grime can make all the difference. Also, check if your valve cover bolts are torqued correctly; over- or under-tightening can cause gaps.
