Misdiagnosed as ABS Module Failure

Just wanted to share this for anyone chasing down ABS light issues on a Golf VII.

The ABS warning light kept popping up on my dash. Took it to a service shop and they diagnosed it as a faulty ABS module — which, as many of you know, is an expensive fix.

But something didn’t sit right, so I started digging a bit myself.

I cleared the error codes.

Drove around — no light.

But then, the light came back only during steep curves.

That’s when it hit me — it wasn’t the ABS module at all…
Turns out, it was due to misaligned wheel direction (steering angle sensor miscalibration or alignment issue). Once that was corrected, the ABS light issue completely disappeared.

So if you’re facing something similar, don’t jump straight to a full ABS module replacement. Sometimes it’s just a matter of steering alignment or sensor recalibration.

Great tip. I’ve noticed in a few instances that recalibrating the steering angle sensor and checking alignment can clear sporadic ABS warnings, especially when they occur only under certain driving conditions. It’s always a good idea to consider sensor calibration before replacing larger components.

Funny how our cars enjoy throwing us curveballs, literally and figuratively. I had a similar ABS hiccup once, and a simple sensor tweak saved me from a pricier fix. Sometimes steering alignment really is the unsung hero.

Another thought – keep an eye on your suspension components too. Worn bushings can subtly shift sensor angles over time, causing intermittent ABS warnings.
